The Dallas Cowboys were in the mix for Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Julius Peppers before the veteran signed a three-year, $26 million deal in March with the Cowboys' playoff opponent on Sunday.
Just how serious did talks get between the Cowboys and Peppers?
"We had conversations with him during that early part of the free agency process," coach Jason Garrett said on Thursday, via 247Sports. "Obviously he’s one of the great players at his position of his generation. He’s been a difference-making player ever since he came into this league. (Defensive coordinator) Rod (Marinelli) had him in Chicago and played great for him and he’s certainly doing a great job up there for Green Bay."
Peppers has 126 career sacks to his credit, including seven this year to go along with four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, two touchdowns, two interceptions, 44 tackles with four for a loss, and a career-high 11 pass deflections.
Not bad for a guy closing in on his 35th birthday.
