In Cowboys rumors today, the Dallas Cowboys seem to be uninterested in using the 2014 NFL Draft as a place to find their potential quarterback of the future.
So says Rainer Sabin of the Dallas Morning News: "This season, the Cowboys are hoping to resurrect the career of Brandon Weeden, the Browns’ 2012 first-round bust. Signed in March, Weeden will turn 31 later this year. His presence on the roster, along with the team’s defensive needs, reduces the likelihood of the Cowboys investing a draft pick in a quarterback next month."
The Dallas Cowboys have shown a track record of avoiding the NFL Draft when it comes to quarterbacks, only drafting five quarterbacks in Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' 25 years as owner.
In head coach Jason Garrett's words, the Cowboys "believe in allocating resources to that position because of [the quarterback’s] value to the football team,” meaning that the Dallas Cowboys are a lot more comfortable taking a chance on a relatively-known NFL commodity such as Brandon Weeden, rather than taking their chances in the draft.
