The Dallas Cowboys' focus in the 2017 NFL Draft will be on the defensive side of the ball. After all, their three biggest needs are at defensive end, cornerback and safety. However, even after re-signing Terrance Williams and Brice Butler, the Cowboys could elect to add another weapon for Dak Prescott at wide receiver.
This list only includes realistic options. As great as it would be to land Mike Williams, that's not going to happen. While there are more than just the four options listed below, these are the top realistic ones. Here are four wide receivers the Cowboys could target in the NFL Draft.
Chad Williams, Grambling
This is easily the most unknown player on the list. But the Cowboys brought in the Grambling product for a pre-draft visit, so there's clearly some level of interest. He's listed at only 6-foot, but plays bigger than his size. He ran a reported 4.40 40-yard dash, although Pro Day times are notoriously faster than they should be. Williams had 89 catches for 1,334 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior. He's a potential Day 3 target for the Cowboys.
K.D. Cannon, Baylor
The Cowboys already have one Baylor wide receiver on the roster in Terrance Williams and they showed interest in Cannon at the Combine and his pro day. Cannon has great speed and that's his best attribute. But he's raw as a route runner and has a slim build. He's another Day 3 option.
Curtis Samuel, Ohio State
The next two players are the biggest names on the list. Samuel is a Percy Harvin-type: someone who can line up the slot or in the backfield. His NFL home is likely at slot receiver, which makes him an interesting fit given the Cowboys already have Cole Beasley. He does offer added return value though. The Cowboys brought him in for a pre-draft visit, so there's interest. He's a likely Day 2 selection and I think the Cowboys would consider him in the third round. However, I'm not sure he'll actually last that long.
JuJu Smith-Schuster, USC
Here's the other big name WR the Cowboys brought in for a pre-draft visit. Smith-Schuster is a big, physical wide out in the mold of Laquon Treadwell. He's not a major deep threat, but he'll thrive in the intermediate and short passing game. Few WRs this year are as tough to bring down as Smith-Schuster. I think he's more likely to fall to the Cowboys third round pick than Samuel. I suspect the Cowboys would still go defense, but if an offensive player is taken in the first two days, it might be Smith-Schuster
