The Dallas Cowboys won their second playoff game with Tony Romo at quarterback last season and nearly advanced to the NFC Championship. The Cowboys' Super Bowl window might be closing, but they have their best team since they lifted the Lombardi Trophy in 1995. Here are four sure-fire reasons why the Cowboys will win the Super Bowl this season.
4. Motivation From Last Year
The Cowboys were a Dez Bryant catch away from making the NFC Championship game last season.
The Cowboys and Dez Bryant have seen that near-catch so many times it has to be burned in their memory. The Cowboys got a taste of playoff success last year, but the aftertaste left in their mouths from coming up short is not a pleasant one. Dallas won't be lacking motivation this year.
3. Defense Will Be Better
Dallas had the 15th ranked defense last year and they should be even better this season. Greg Hardy, character issues aside, adds a much needed pass rusher. Randy Gregory slipped to Round 2, but had first round talent. Last year's second round selection DeMarcus Lawrence flashed big-time potential in the playoffs against the Lions. Tyrone Crawford is primed for a breakout season.
The biggest addition of all might be the return of Sean Lee. He's battled injuries, but he's one of the best linebackers in the NFL when healthy. Dallas needs Brandon Carr to play up to his contract or for Morris Claiborne to be the player the Cowboys thought they were getting when it traded up for him. With Rod Marinelli back at coordinator, the Cowboys defense should be improved from last season.
2. Tony Romo Is In His Prime
Romo may turn 35 during the season, but he's coming off one of his best NFL seasons. He threw 34 TDs last season against just nine picks. He led the NFL in completion percentage, yards per attempt, passer rating and comeback drives last season. For the first time in three seasons, Romo has a full offseason of health. Romo has already guaranteed a Super Bowl win this season and he'll finally shed the inaccurate "choker" label when he does.
1. Best Offensive Line In The NFL
Games are won in the trenches and Cowboys have the best offensive in the NFL by far. Tyron Smith is one of the best left tackles in the game and is only 24 years old. Doug Free struggled at times in previous years, but rebounded to be one 10 best right tackles according to Pro Football Focus. Zack Martin quickly established himself as one of the best guards in his first season. Center Travis Frederick has proven himself worthy of the first round pick Dallas spent on him. The Cowboys added first round talent La'El Collins after he went undrafted following a murder investigation. Collins was cleared of any wrongdoing and could take over at left guard Week 1. The Cowboys have, including Collins, four first round talents starting on the offensive line. That kind of talent hasn't been seen in the NFL since the last Cowboys Dynasty.
These four reasons are why I like the Dallas Cowboys' chances to win the Super Bowl this year.
