There is no doubt that DeMarco Murray had an incredible season last year for the Dallas Cowboys. But, the Cowboys wisely let him walk and Murray signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. Here are four reasons why the Cowboys won't miss Murray this season.
Health
Last year was a rarity for Murray in that he wasn't hurt. Murray battled injuries at Oklahoma and with Dallas. Last year was the first season Murray managed to stay healthy. Given his history, there isn't much reason to expect Murray to stay healthy this season. When he goes down, it shouldn't be a surprise.
Saved Money
The Eagles gave DeMarco Murray a 5-year, $40 million contract. That's a lot of money to give to a 27-year old running back in today's NFL. Had the Cowboys given Murray that contract, they wouldn't have been able to afford Greg Hardy. Who would you rather have, a pass rusher in Hardy or an injury-prone RB in Murray? I think the Cowboys made the correct choice.
Talent In The Backfield
Just because Murray is gone doesn't mean that the Cowboys are lacking talent at RB. Joseph Randle has shown flashes in limited time. Lance Dunbar can handle third down duties. Darren McFadden's talent has never been doubted, although his injury problems have always been an issue. Christine Michael was a second round pick for a reason. He's got great talent and could have a big season if he gets a chance. The Cowboys don't need one player to replace Murray, but a running back-by-committee approach can replace him.
Amazing Offensive Line
This is the biggest reason Cowboys won't miss Murray. The offensive line is so good, they don't need an elite running back to pick up yards on the ground. They can plug in anyone on the roster and they can rack up 1,000 yards this season. Whether it's Randle, McFadden, Michael or a combination of both, the Cowboys won't notice a major difference in their running game without Murray.
