The Dallas Cowboys have lost seven straight games without QB Tony Romo. The team has received a partial pass because of Romo's injury, but that doesn't mean the Cowboys should lose seven games in the manner they did. There have been numerous issues with the team and Romo's injury isn't entirely to blame for the Cowboys' major problems. Some of that blame should fall on head coach Jason Garrett. I'm not saying Garrett should be fired, but the Cowboys haven't produced the way their starting talent says they should under Garrett and the team has been among the NFL's worst the past seven weeks. With that in mind, here are Three Reasons Why Jason Garrett Should Be On The Hot Seat.
3. Terrible Offense
Jason Garrett is an offensive coach; that's his area of expertise. But without Romo, the Cowboys offense has been anemic at best and a dumpster fire at worst. Look, I get that Romo WAS the offense. But scoring 12 or fewer points three times should never happen in the NFL. And scoring six points against the Bucs? Seriously? Tampa Bay allowed 19 points to the Texans and yet the Cowboys can't even score a touchdown. Matt Cassel and Brandon Weeden aren't great QBs, but Garrett needed to find a way to win with them at the helm. He failed miserably and needs to be on the hot seat as a result.
2. Lack Of Control
The Cowboys haven't acted like a professional football team lately. Dez Bryant is getting in arguments with reporters, something he's done more than once. There's Greg Hardy, who acted like Marshawn Lynch with the media. Even worse, he's getting in arguments with the special teams coach. Garrett has no control over Hardy. Joseph Randle stormed out of the team's facility after getting benched. All of these examples point to the same conclusion: Garrett doesn't have control of his team. He's letting the inmates run the asylum (and Jerry Jones is a big reason why that occurs, but that's a different article for a different day), which is recipe for disaster. Until Garrett gets the Cowboys focused and under control, they are going to keep losing.
1. Blown Games
This wouldn't even be a conversation if the Cowboys hadn't blown several games without Romo. The Cowboys had chances to win against the Buccaneers, Eagles, Seahawks, Giants and Saints. If Dallas had won just a few of those games, Garrett would be safe and the Cowboys would be in a great position to make the playoffs. Instead, the Cowboys need a Romo miracle to make the playoffs. But as DE Jeremy Mincey said, "Romo ain't Jesus." Because of Garrett's inability to get the Cowboys a few wins without Romo, the playoffs aren't a likely option. It's also why Garrett should be on the hot seat.
