The Dallas Cowboys are 4-9 and have the same chance of making the playoffs as Lloyd Christmas does. However, the Cowboys continue to play Matt Cassel at QB, claiming he can win them games. Dallas still delusional thinks it can make the playoffs, since they haven't been mathematically eliminated. However, sticking with Cassel is not the best course of action for the long-term or the short term. Here are 3 Reasons Why The Cowboys Need To Start Kellen Moore At QB:
3. Cassel Is Clearly Not The Answer
Cassel has struggled badly for the Cowboys this season. He can't throw the ball downfield and has relied almost entirely on short-to-intermediate throws. Dez Bryant has been wildly ineffective with Cassel at the helm, as Cassel can't find a way to get the ball to the Cowboys' best weapon. Cassel is completing 59.2 percent of his passes for 1,239 yards, 5 TDs and 6 interceptions in seven games. He's averaging just 6.32 yards per attempt. Cassel has been WORSE than Brandon Weeden, who the team cut. Weeden completed 72 percent of his passes with 2 scores and two picks. He also averaged 7.53 yards per attempt. It's time to end the Cassel experiment.
2. Potential For Finding Next Year's Backup
By giving Moore the chance to start now, the team will figure out if Moore can effectively serve as the team's backup QB next year. Moore isn't going to be the team's future at QB, but he could be the backup next season. Moore would be cheap and finding out if he can be the backup would take care of an offseason need. It's clear the Cowboys can't enter next season with Cassel as the backup. It's time to play Moore and see if he can handle the rigors of the NFL.
1. No Downside
There is no downside to playing Moore. If he wins a few games, then the Cowboys have a new backup for next season. If Moore turns out to be a younger, left handed version of Cassel and the Cowboys continue lose, then the team will just end up with a higher draft pick. At this point in the season, getting a better draft pick is probably the best outcome for the Cowboys anyway. Tt's time for Jerry Jones and rest of the Cowboys to give up on Cassel and the delusional dreams of making the playoffs and hand the reins over to Moore.
