The Dallas Cowboys surprisingly hold the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft after a disastrous season that was ruined by multiple injuries, but it also gives them the chance to add a major contributor that can make an immediate impact. However, they can't afford to waste this situation - a bust could set their Super Bowl aspirations even further back. Here are three players they need to avoid in the first round:
3) Myles Jack, LB, UCLA Bruins
Jack was an absolute stud at UCLA, and Dallas needs to upgrade at the linebacking position. While I think Jack will turn out to be a good player in the NFL, he isn't No. 4 overall pick worthy. He relied mostly on his athleticism to make plays at the college level, a strength of his that will be neutralized in the NFL. Throw in the fact that he's recovering from major knee injury, and the Cowboys would be better served to look somewhere else.
2) DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon Ducks
Buckner is a virtual lock to be a top 10 pick, but drafting him would be a mistake for Dallas. Teams may get caught up with Buckner's physical tools (6'7", 290 lbs.), but he starred on one of the worst defenses in the country. Raw with his technique, Buckner occasionally put up good numbers but never was able to make a tangible impact on a game.
1) Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State Buckeyes
This is not a knock on Elliott as a player - I think he will be an excellent pro for several years. Dallas has a major need at running back, but using a pick this high to draft a player when you can get similar production from someone in the second or third round is a major no-no. Most running backs would shine running behind Dallas' offense line - use this opportunity to get a defensive game-changer and save the running back for the second round. Who doesn't want both Joey Bosa/Jalen Ramsey and Derrick Henry?
