Knowledge is power. In this modern era of baseball, data and information are becoming increasingly abundant and more accessible to teams and the general public. This week Major League Baseball, in conjunction with Statcast, released a slew of data relating to bat tracking. The new data highlights bat speed, swing length, fast-swing rate, squared-up rate, blasts, and swords. All the information is relatively new and is only available for this season dating back to early April, but it is already a useful tool that can give some insight into how we view and analyze different hitters. In our case, this week we’ll take a look and get familiar with some interesting insights into the Colorado Rockies offense.
