Cavs Rumors: Cleveland Has Had Conversations With Pistons About Kyrie Irving Trade

While the Phoenix Suns have been at the forefront of Irving trade talks, the Detroit Pistons continue to show interest and have had conversations with the Cleveland Cavaliers about a possible deal, according to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press.

A person with knowledge of the Detroit Pistons' front office told the Free Press recently that the organization is interested in the four-time NBA All-Star, who nailed the winning shot to clinch the 2016 NBA title for the Cavs.

That's not a shocker. ESPN.com’s Adrian Wojnarowski, citing league sources, reported late last month that “there were approximately 20 teams” that inquired on Irving when news of his trade request rocked the NBA off-season.

And team president and coach Stan Van Gundy isn’t even trying to hide Pistons interest, telling the team website earlier this week “the Pistons have had some level of conversation with the Cavs.”

Detroit is one of 20 teams that have reportedly had contact with the Cavs, but it remains to be seen what the Pistons are willing to offer for Irving. Cleveland is asking for a veteran player, a promising young player and a draft pick.

Detroit's offer would likely have to include either Andre Drummond or Reggie Jackson for salary purposes, along with Luke Kennard and/or Stanley Johnson. It's unclear which players Cleveland values.

Irving averaged a career-high 25.2 points and 5.8 assists per game last season.
