The Cleveland Cavaliers absolutely crushed the Toronto Raptors in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Cavs started hot and jumped out to a 31-point halftime lead, the largest in conference finals history, and cruised to a 116-78 win.
Everything seemed to go the Cavs way, and they led by 40 entering the fourth quarter and by as many as 43. Neither team even bothered putting their key players on the court for the final frame. The announcers completely turned their attention away from the game, discussing topics like how far the 76ers would have gone this year with LeBron James, TV shows and whether college athletes should be paid. It was a truly a blow out game.
After struggling badly in Games 3 and 4, Kevin Love was incredible in Game 5. He hit 8 of 10 shots and finished with a game-best 25 points in just 24 minutes. LeBron James was sharp as well, posting 23 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Kyrie Irving had 23 points and Tristan Thompson nearly had a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Kyle Lowry played great at home in the previous two games, but struggled on the road once again in the playoffs. He was just 5 of 12 from the field for 13 points. He had six assists, but turned it over five times. DeMar DeRozan led the Raptors with a mere 14 points, but was just 2 of 8 from the field. No other Raptor reached double figures, as Toronto had one of their worst games this season.
The potentially decisive Game 6 is Friday in Toronto. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
