In today's look into trending Cavs rumors, legendary Cleveland sportswriter Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer doesn't believe that All-Star guard Kyrie Irving is currently worth the five-year, $90 million contract extension which he is scheduled to sign on July 10th.
Here's Pluto's thoughts on the matter: "Is Irving worth a $90 million deal right now? No. Not even in the inflated NBA market. But can he mature into one of the game's premier point guards? Yes. Like most fans, I start screaming at the television set when Irving falls into one of his endless dribbling escapades. But I also know that the offense often lacks decent spacing and ball movement, especially last year."
Pluto also debated whether or not Irving and young shooting guard Dion Waiters can coexist in new head coach David Blatt's system, positing that "the "high usage" style of both guards -- meaning they both like to have the ball -- makes it hard for them to play a lot at the same time."
Waiters has been open about his preference to not inhabit a sixth-man role in Cleveland - making a potential roster shift a possibility if the two can't efficiently work together in Blatt's offensive scheme.
