Despite reported optimism that a deal would find a way to get done between the Cleveland Cavs and Tristan Thompson, Thompson will be on his way to restricted free agency come July.
Here's Brian Windhorst of ESPN with the scoop:
Tristan Thompson had 13 rebs & big dunk in overtime tonight but won't be getting contract extension. To be restricted free agent in July

Cavs owner Dan Gilbert expressed the team's interest in retaining Thompson on an extension earlier in the week.
We’d like to sign Tristan long-term to the Cavaliers. I don’t think that’s any secret,”Gilbert said Wednesday, via Dan Feldman of NBC's Pro Basketball Talk. “I believe they’d like to do that as well. So we’ll hopefully see what happens this week.”
With the salary cap likely to skyrocket with the upcoming new national TV contracts for the league, it's possible that the money just wasn't right for Thompson to sign on the dotted line before Friday night's extension deadline.
