Cleveland came out strong and surprised a heavily-favored Golden State team by taking the early lead, but the Warriors fought back and led 60-54 at halftime. The Cavaliers were able to hang with Golden State for most of the third quarter, but the Warriors ultimately pulled away to grab the victory.
Turning Point:
After Cleveland took a two-point lead midway through the third quarter, Golden State went on an 11-0 run that finally gave them a comfortable lead they were able to keep for the rest of the game.
Key Stat:
Golden State won this game by how they pushed the ball on offense and limited Cleveland's transition offense. They outscored the Cavs 36-3 in transition, allowing the Warriors to get a bunch of easy baskets while Cleveland got just one. This is why the Warriors were able to pull away in the second half.
Cleveland MVP:
J.R. Smith had his first big game in a Cleveland uniform, dropping 27 points on 11/23 shooting. Kyrie Irving (23 points, five assists) and Kevin Love (17 points, 14 rebounds) also played well.
Golden State MVP:
Klay Thompson had a marvelous game from behind arc in this one, hitting four threes on his way to a 24-point night. He left the game in the third quarter to get seven stitches on his forehead, but returned in the fourth to finish the game. Stephen Curry also had a good night, scoring 23 points and dishing out 10 assists, and Draymond Green had a near triple-double (10 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists).
