The Cleveland Cavs have dealt with a ton of controversy surrounding star guard Kyrie Irving and his alleged plans to leave Cleveland as soon as he hits free agency.
However, tonight is a better night news-wise when it comes to Irving, as the Cleveland Cavs superstar has stood up in support of former collegiate teammate Derrick Gordon, who came out as the first openly gay player in Division I NCAA men's basketball earlier this week --
“I’m proud of him,” Irving states in an article by Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal. “It’s a big step, not only in his life but in his career to get the weight of the world off his shoulders.”
The Cleveland Cavs' NBA All-Star guard added that he's never had a problem with homosexuality" -- “Even if one of my teammates was a homosexual, I wouldn’t have a problem with it. But to see guys in sports coming out now is part of life.”
Kyrie Irving concluded with the assertion that he is proud of Gordon for coming out, and that he has spoken with Gorden and given his support recently.
