There's a fascinating rumor emerging with just days to go until the draft, but it won't make Cleveland fans very happy.
ESPN's Chad Ford is reporting that top prospect Jabari Parker (expected to go in the top 3 in Thursday's draft, and frequently tabbed as the potential first overall pick) "tanked" his draft workout with Cleveland to avoid being picked by the Cavaliers. Parker reportedly would prefer to play for the Milwaukee Bucks, and intentionally performed badly while working out for the Cavs to sway them towards taking someone else with the first overall pick.
While players have successfully convinced teams not to draft them before, this would be the first reported case of "workout tanking" we've seen. Ford's sources for this information are still unclear, but he's a well-respected NBA writer unlikely to invent a story or cite sketchy information.
Widely seen as the most NBA-ready player in the draft, Parker averaged 19.1 points and 8.7 rebounds in his freshman year at Duke. The Cavaliers were expected to take Parker first overall, but if there's any truth to this report, that could be changing shortly.
