The Cleveland Cavs are likely to look for rim protection on the trade market prior to February's trade deadline, and they could very well use Dion Waiters as a trade chip in order to get a deal done.
As Howard Beck of Bleacher Report puts it, "the fourth overall pick in 2012, Waiters has struggled to adapt to a reduced role on the LeBron James-centric Cavaliers. He hasn't been shy about his discontent. The Cavaliers could use a mobile, rim-protecting big man, and they're expected to use Waiters, along with Brendan Haywood's expiring contract, as the key pieces of a major deal."
Exactly who the Cleveland Cavs would target in such a "major deal" is unclear, although there are plenty of teams who are likely to already view themselves out of playoff contention and could be willing to part with a starting-caliber big man for a price.
