LeBron James has just agreed to a two-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, giving the four-time NBA MVP the option to opt out and restructure his contract in the summer of 2015.
According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com, "James has agreed to a two-year, $42.1 million deal with the team with the goal of re-signing with the Cavs before the 2016-17 season when a new television contract is expected to create a large jump in value of the maximum."
Per Windhorst's source, James could fully test free agency in 2015 by opting out, but is "fully committed to the Cavs long term."
Depending on how the new television contracts for the NBA are structured, the salary cap is projected to jump somewhere in the $80 million range in 2016. If this indeed happens, LeBron James could maximize his return by signing a new long-term deal with the Cavs as soon as that cap number is announced.
