Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving exited Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday, and the team announced on Friday that he has suffered a fractured knee cap and will require surgery that will keep him out of action for 3-4 months.
When the Cavs met with the media on Friday, Irving was still in the process of being evaluated. LeBron James addressed the situation with reporters, completely uncertain of what the prognosis would be.
"The good thing about it is we've been in this position before," Cavaliers forward LeBron James said. "We're not quite sure right now. If he's not able to go, it's something that's not new to us. So next man up."
Irving missed two games in the team's Eastern Conference Finals sweep of the Atlanta Hawks and has been limited by knee tendonitis for the duration of the Cavs' playoff run.
Now without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love for the remainder of the postseason, LeBron James will have to take on even more of the load to oust the NBA's best team in the regular season, the Golden State Warriors.
