Chicago's goal leading up to the deadline was to upgrade their bullpen, and they certainly did just that. After acquiring Aroldis Chapman from the Yankees to be their closer, Smith has added further depth to their bullpen.
Smith has a 3.82 ERA and six saves in 38 appearances this season.
