Charania: Celtics acquire Josh Richardson from Mavericks

Busy day just got busier. After dealing Tristan Thompson in a three-way deal for Kris Dunn, President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens wasn’t ready for the weekend just yet. Per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Celtics are acquiring the Mavericks’ Josh Richardson.

Richardson had a $11.6 million player option for next season that he’ll pick up in order to in effect join Boston for the 2021-2022 season. As CelticsBlog’s Keith Smith points out, the timing of the deal is important: because the deal is being completed before the official start of next year, Richardson’s salary will fit into the remainder of the Gordon Hayward traded player exception.
