What's the next step for the Boston Celtics after the first weekend of NBA free agency? Here's our Celtics Free Agency Rumors Roundup For July 7th.
Celtics acquire David Lee in trade with Warriors
The Boston Celtics have acquired former All-Star power forward David Lee in a trade the Golden State Warriors, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
Lee, who was an All-Star in 2013, fell out of the rotation in Golden State with the emergence of Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes, and was looking to move to a team where he could get more playing time. He averaged 7.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game last season.
Both Lee and the Warriors "resolved to work together to 'come up with a good solution' to find a new home for Lee this offseason." He is entering the final year of his contract that will pay him $15 million this season.
Wallace played a very minor role for the Celtics last season, appearing in just 32 games while averaging 1.1 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, but is in this deal for salary cap purposes. He is in the final year of his contract that will pay him over $10.1 million this season.
Brandon Bass signs with Lakers
Former Boston Celtics power forward has agreed to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to multiple sources.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed and are dependent on what other roster moves the Lakers make once players are able to sign contracts starting on Thursday.
Bass averaged 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game last season.
Celtics passed on Tobias Harris?
The Orlando Magic held on to a key part of their future plans in the first days of free agency, re-signing 22-year-old forward Tobias Harris to a massive four-year, $64 million deal.
The young restricted free agent had been linked to big-market clubs such as the Lakers and Knicks prior to agreeing with the Magic, and it appears the Celtics were also considering pulling the trigger on him.
According to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, the "Celtics seriously considered offer sheet for Tobias Harris, but Ainge was wary of scraping up assets only to have (the) Magic match."
Harris had a breakout 2014-15 season for Orlando, averaging 17.1 points and 6.3 rebounds in 34.8 minutes per game.
