The Boston Celtics' blockbuster trade of Rajon Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks brought back three pieces that most thought Danny Ainge and the team's front office were viewing as trade chips or a means of future financial flexibility - Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson, and Brandan Wright.
However, of the three, Jae Crowder could be the one to stick with the franchise for the long haul.
Here's ESPN Boston's Chris Forsberg with his assessment of how Crowder fits in Boston:
Of the three players acquired from the Dallas Mavericks in the Rajon Rondo swap, Crowder may be the most likely to have a future with the team. The 6-foot-7 swingman is due a $1.2 million qualifying offer after the season that's a no-brainer for Boston to extend if he's not a casualty of salary aggregation at the February trade deadline.
The simple fact that Crowder carved out a niche on a veteran-heavy Mavs squad is impressive enough. With the Celtics currently in a mode of transition, the three-year pro should have every opportunity to distinguish himself as a irreplaceable piece for the franchise going forward.
