Celtics News: Joel Anthony to test free agency after season?

Celtics news may receive a little bit of a shock at the end of the 2013-14 NBA season, as a player they thought would come back due to a relatively large player option may choose to walk to free agency instead.

According to Jay King of the Boston Globe, Boston Celtics center Joel Anthony may choose to leave the Celtics, rather than pick up a $3.8 million player options which King states "to describe the situation bluntly, no other team will match."

"The team, obviously we haven’t had the success that we wanted on the court but off the court it’s been a great situation," the Celtics big man stated to the Boston Globe. "You don’t always have that when teams are in this type of situation. That’s made it a lot easier being in a good locker room with a good group of guys."

However, the motivation for Anthony may come down to winning, and not necessarily to financials. If Anthony walks, "he would almost certainly earn a veteran's minimum salary ($1.2 million)," but could be okay with that if he feels that the Boston Celtics cannot field a legitimate contender.
