The Boston Celtics are in the midst of a rebuilding effort that has seen them gut their roster in favor of younger players and draft picks. The mastermind behind the project is President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge, and hesaid despite the grueling rebuilding process, he loves his job:
“I like the challenge. I have a great deal of respect for the other 29 teams in the league. The teams are getting better managed every year. Everybody’s getting a little smarter with their assets. The draft is a challenge. Free agency is a challenge. The competition is great.“We’re in a situation where we’re building, and we’re in the early phases. We’re trying to build a championship team.Draft picks are always tradable,” he says. “Teams are always looking for draft picks. Sometimes they’re valuable; sometimes they aren’t as valuable depending on where they fall. Our plan is to draft a lot of players, or we’ll be opportunistic with trade possibilities.”
Boston is in the middle of a long Western Conference road trip and will face the Portland Trail Blazers tonight.
