The Boston Celtics assigned guards Andre Dawkins and Phil Pressey to the Maine Red Claws of the NBA D-League on Thursday, but recalled Pressey back to the Celtics on Friday.
Pressey stood out with the Red Claws on Thursday night, scoring 34 points in 42 minutes in his first-ever stint in the D-League.
“I felt like I was in college again playing all those minutes,” Pressey said Friday. “It was just a good time to go down there to work on some of the things I’ve been working on that I haven’t had a chance to work on because I haven’t played as much. It was a good opportunity for me to go down there and get some reps and some good conditioning in because we’ve been traveling and playing a lot, and for guys that aren’t playing, we haven’t been able to get a lot of practice time in. It’s just an opportunity to get better. To get good conditioning, there’s nothing like playing. You can run on the treadmill, you can do as much conditioning as you want, but at the end of the day, there’s nothing like getting on that court and playing 5-on-5.”
Pressey has played in 31 games for the Celtics this season, averaging 3.2 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 11.6 minutes per game.
