The Boston Celtics finally pulled the trigger on a trade involving four-time All-Star Rajon Rondo, sending him to the Dallas Mavericks for Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson, and two draft picks.
Many viewed the trade as a huge steal for the Mavericks, and that the Celtics didn't get what they could have for Rondo. However, Boston is "pleased" with the return they got from Dallas, according to ESPN's Baxter Holmes.
The deal now puts the Celtics in a full-fledged rebuild, having removed the last piece from their 2008 championship team. Wright and Crowder, both backup forwards, figure to play a part in that rebuild, while Nelson - a veteran point guard - will be relied on to mentor rookie Marcus Smart.
Wright is averaging 8.8 points and 4.1 rebounds in 18.7 minutes per game. Crowder is averaging 3.6 points and 1.2 rebounds in 10.6 minutes per game, while Nelson is averaging 7.3 points and 4.1 assists in 25.4 minutes per game.
Boston has a 9-14 record this season, but their record will likely plummet after losing Rondo. Their next game is Friday night at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
