The Orioles shuffled their outfield earlier this week by optioning Heston Kjerstad and designating Ryan McKenna for assignment. Baltimore made the moves prior to recalling Kyle Stowers and activating Austin Hays from the injured list.
At the beginning of the year, the outfield felt like a puzzle with too many pieces. The long-standing trio of Anthony Santander, Cedric Mullins and Austin Hays went to Sarasota with several talented youngsters ready to make their mark at the major-league level.
The club broke camp with all three members of the old guard and former first-round pick Colton Cowser. Jorge Mateo seemed to prove that he could handle center in a pinch, so the club felt comfortable heading north with only four true outfielders.
