The 2024 Orioles, ladies and gentlemen. Even when they play one of the worst games of their lives, they somehow end up winning.
With the O’s three outs away from suffering their first sweep in exactly two calendar years, Adley Rutschman blasted a two-run, walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth to pull out the unlikeliest of victories, 3-2, over the Blue Jays. The streak of sweepless series is now up to 105, tied for the third-longest in major league history.
But wow, getting there was tough sledding. Before Adley’s blast, the O’s offense did nearly everything wrong all game long, squandering one scoring opportunity after another through a combination of pitiful at-bats, head-scratching strategy, and various other annoyances.
