The Atlanta Falcons appear close to parting ways with head coach Mike Smith, and they could very well look to replace him with another NFL head coach close to getting the axe.
According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan could provide a natural fit for the Falcons if Smith is indeed let go:
Couple of sources reiterated today that Rex Ryan to #Falcons seems natural considering need to upgrade D & that he interviewed there in 2008

Now, Cole's report doesn't state whether the Falcons would target Ryan as a head coach or a defensive coordinator. However, for an Atlanta squad searching for some level of defensive continuity and consistency, Ryan's background as a defensive guru could be coveted no matter what role the Falcons decide to tab him for.
Stay tuned.
