The power duo of Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward has finally worked for the Braves. After going down 4-0, Jason Heyward ripped a pitch to deep right, and put the Braves within striking distance at 4-2. The rest of the game was an up and down struggle that finally found the Braves winning 9-6.
Not a great pitching game, but Tommy Hanson got the win, and Craig Kimbrel got his 30th save of the season, breaking the Braves all-time saves for a rookie record.
The Phillies didn't play yesterday, so the Braves picked up a half game, to move them to 4 back.
Dan Uggla had the day off.
Up next for the Braves are the playoff hopeful Cincinnati Reds. The Phillies play the Padres.
Today's match up has the NL ERA leading Jair Jurrjens looking for his 13th win of the season, while the Reds' Bronson Arroyo looks to improve on his 7-8 year. Look for a good pitching duel tonight, with Jair Jurrjens not faltering all night.
Game time: 7:10 pm at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.
