The Arkansas Razorbacks pulled off a dramatic four-overtime victory against the Auburn Tigers this afternoon, giving the Hogs their third win of the season while Auburn fell to last place in the SEC West. Here are three things we learned about each team in the game:
Arkansas Razorbacks
Alex Collins is a bonafide star. The junior running back has taken over the full-time running back duties with the injury to Jonathan Williams and carried the offense in this one, running for 105 yards and touchdowns while picking up key first downs down the stretch and in overtime. Arkansas will ride his legs to another upset win this season.
Bret Bielema may have saved his job. This was supposed to be the year that Arkansas broke through and became a true SEC West contender, but that has been far from the case this season. A loss to Toledo highlighted their 3-4 start, and they still haven't hit the heart of their schedule that features road trips at Ole Miss and LSU. However, this win shows they aren't a total lost cause and may have bought Bielema another season.
Brandon Allen has become the leader of this offense. He passed for 233 yards and three touchdowns in this one, most of which came in overtime when the Razorbacks needed it. Allen came up with clutch play after clutch play in the four extra frames.
Auburn Tigers
Sean White is not the answer. White took over the starting quarterback job from Jeremy Johnson following their loss to LSU, but he has yet to throw a touchdown pass in the three games since then. Auburn needs some sort of an explosive passing threat to be effective, and they simply just don't have it.
Speaking of the offense, Peyton Barber is the only player consistently contributing on that side of the ball. He ran the ball 37 times for 120 yards and four touchdowns in this one, giving him an astonishing 11 scores in the past three games.
Will Muschamp might not be the answer on defense. The Tigers rank 94th in the country in total defense and gave up another 457 yards to the Razorbacks in this one. While the offense has had their struggles, it's been the defense's lackluster performance that has been Auburn's Achilles heel this season.
