BREAKING: Kevin Sumlin Will Be The Next Head Coach At Arizona

Former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin will be taking his talents to coach the Arizona Wildcats. Since the firing of Rich Rodriguez, the Wildcats have been in search for a new coach.

Gil Brandt of SiriusXM reported that Sumlin is heading to Arizona. Bruce Feldman has also confirmed Sumlin heading to Arizona.

Despite being fired at Texas A&M, Sumlin is considered one of the brightest offensive minds in football, and would run a very similar scheme to Rodriguez, giving QB Khalil Tate the ability to thrive in a similar fashion to Johnny Manziel under Sumlin's tutelage.

Tate is one of the most exciting players in college football, he threw for 1,591 yards and 14 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,411 yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games.

Sumlin has coached college football since 1989 and has an extensive background wearing many different hats. Sumlin served as an assistant with Washington State (89-90), Wyoming (91-92), Minnesota (93-97), Purdue (98-2000). He served as the assistant head coach at Texas A&M for two years and then five years under Bob Stoops at Oklahoma.

Sumlin's first head coaching gig was with the Houston Cougars in 2008 and in his final season, he led the Cougars to a 12-1 record. He then left Houston to coach at Texas A&M from 2012-17. Sumlin was fired in the middle of the 2017 season after the Aggies lost to LSU 45-21. Sumlin is a two-time C-USA Coach of the Year (2009, 2011) and was SEC Coach of the Year in 2012.
