The Alabama Crimson Tide have four-star Jake Fromm (Warner Robbins, GA) as one of their top two quarterback targets in the class of 2017, and he was in Tuscaloosa this weekend to watch the Tide's final fall scrimmage.
“It went good,” Fromm said. “I definitely got to kind of look around and see practice and their scrimmage routine. I was watching all the quarterbacks. I’m trying to figure out the quarterback race too. I’m definitely looking forward to looking at that.”
While the focus was on the field, Fromm did get to say hello to a couple of Alabama coaches.
“It was kind of busy. Everyone was looking forward to the scrimmage. We did meet with Coach (Lane) Kiffin and Coach (Nick) Saban briefly, though. We’ve seen a lot of (campus) before. We didn’t try to tour around too much. We just watched the scrimmage, and had a good time. We got to watch a lot of big athletes play. I met a 2018 defensive back—Myles Mason. He’s a good-looking kid. We met with him and his dad and talked with them for a while. We built a good relationship.”
Fromm also said that the coaching staff is being cautious with the ’17 recruiting cycle.
“They’re kind of being patient with it,” Fromm said. “I don’t think they want a guy to commit too early with the history they’ve had with guys committing early. They definitely say I’m the number one guy left. We just have to see where it goes, take time and be patient with it.”
Fromm has a top three of Alabama, Ole Miss and South Carolina, in no particular order.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder is rated the No. 8 pro-style quarterback and the No. 158 overall player in the country.
