Halftime Quick Hitters: Alabama Leads Florida 21-14 at the Half

The Alabama Crimson Tide host the Florida Gators in an SEC showdown.

In a game that promised to be action-packed, things got started right off the bat, with Alabama scoring the first touchdown of the game just 90 seconds into the contest.

Blake Sims further staked his claim on the starting quarterback role, connecting with Kenyan Drake for an 87 yard score on Alabama's first play from scrimmage.

That was the start to a huge first half for Sims, who later connected with Amari Cooper for a 79 yard score.

He finished the first half with 335 yards and three touchdowns on 17 completions.

Meanwhile, Cooper continued his dominant run, hauling in seven passes for 175 yards and a score.

Despite allowing a handful of big scoring plays, the Florida defense played tough, forcing three turnovers that led to 14 points, including a 49 yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Those turnovers set up the Gator offense in a half where they had trouble moving the ball.

Quarterback Jeff Driskel had a hard time getting into rhythm against the Alabama defense, completing just 5/17 pass attempts for 53 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Stat to keep an eye on: Amari Cooper has 175 yards receiving in the first half. He is closing in on Julio Jones' school record of 221 yards in a game.

Top performers:

Florida Defense - three fumble recoveries, one defensive touchdown

Amari Cooper - seven receptions, 175 yards, one touchdown

Blake Sims - 17/23, 335 yards, three touchdowns
