In this Alabama football news and rumors update, the Alabama Crimson Tide and their fan base will likely get their first full look at Miami QB transfer Jacob Coker in #2 Alabama's Saturday tilt against 40-point underdog Florida Atlantic.
After not playing any meaningful snaps against West Virginia last weekend, Coker will most likely find himself under head coach Nick Saban's microscope this week.
"We still have competition at the position, so it gives us an opportunity to evaluate how guys played in the game," Saban said, via John Zenor of the Associated Press. "We already know how Blake Sims played, and I thought he played fairly well. But regardless of how our quarterback situation works out long-term, you always want to have another guy that's ready to go in the game if something happens to the first guy, whoever that might be."
Saban indicates that his decision to play Coker hinges less on playing Florida Atlantic than trying to set the program up with the best plan to succeed.
"It's not about who we're playing, it's about trying to manage our team for the future. And that's exactly what we're trying to do," Saban stated.
