National Signing Day is one of the biggest days in college football, as landing a good class can set a program up for long-term success on the field in the fall. That is certainly the case in the ACC, as teams across the league hope to set themselves up for success with their 2017 recruiting class. Here is how those classes stack up against each other:
14) Boston College Eagles - No. 64 nationally
Boston College only signed four players that ranked in the top 1000 of 247sports' composite rankings, but got a lot of depth with 16 three-star recruits.
13) Wake Forest Demon Deacons - No. 63 nationally
Like BC, Wake Forest doesn't have a five- or four-star recruit in their class, but depth is there with 17 three-star commits.
12) Syracuse Orange - No. 56 nationally
All of Syracuse's 21 commits are three-star recruits, with Under Armour All-American quarterback Tommy Devito standing as best prospect in the class. He's expected to compete for the starting job immediately.
11) Virginia Cavaliers - No. 54 nationally
Bronco Mendenhall's first full recruiting class at Virginia doesn't have much star power, but with 23 of their 25 signees ranked as three-star recruits, UVA with be stocked with needed depth at every position.
10) NC State Wolfpack - No. 53 nationally
All 19 of NC State's signees are three-star recruits, but they're talented three-star guys - 11 of them rank in the top 1000 in 247sports' rankings.
9) Duke Blue Devils - No. 41 nationally
Duke isn't known for their recruiting prowess in football, but there is some talent in this group. Four-star defensive end Drew Jordan highlights the group with 21 other three-star recruits.
8) Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets - No. 46 nationally
Georgia Tech recruits to their style and knows how to get the most of their players, so don't worry as much about their ranking. Four-star linebacker Bruce Jordan-Swilling should start right away, and all 22 three-star commits will fill a role.
7) Pitt Panthers - No. 31 nationally
A big jump from Georgia Tech to Pitt in the rankings, and the Panthers have the kind of class that might be sneaky good in a few years. They have star power in this group to go along with the depth by signing four top 300 guys, including safety Paris Ford - who is ranked as the No. 53 overall prospect in the country.
6) Louisville Cardinals - No. 30 nationally
Louisville doesn't have as many four-star recruits as Pitt, but have more depth. Expect four-star running back Colin Wilson to be a factor for them next season.
5) North Carolina Tar Heels - No. 27 nationally
Larry Fedora has a history of developing three- and four-star prospects into major contributors and NFL draft picks during his time at UNC. Their class is top heavy with seven signees in the top 300 nationally, including offensive guard Jonah Melton (No. 147) and defensive end Jake Lawler (No. 174).
4) Virginia Tech Hokies - No. 24 nationally
Justin Fuente has done an excellent job with his first full recruiting class, landing five four-star recruits and 21 three-star signees. Better yet, 20 of those are ranked in 247sports' top 1000.
3) Clemson Tigers - No. 16 nationally
It may be a surprise to see Clemson this low, but that's only because they have just 14 commitments due to the large classes they've had the last few years. Of those, they have two five-stars in quarterback Hunter Johnson and WR Tee Higgins and eight other recruits that rank in the top 300.
2) Miami Hurricanes - No. 13 nationally
As for teams doing well in a coach's first full recruiting class, Mark Richt has done an excellent job with Miami. Even though they don't have a five-star recruit in the class, 10 four-star prospects and three top 100 signees show how much talent this group has.
1) Florida State Seminoles - No. 7 nationally
Jimbo Fisher continues to dominate the recruiting scene in the ACC, headlined by landed five-star running back Cam Akers (No. 2 overall prospect) and five-star defensive end Joshua Kaindoh (No. 9). Star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson (No. 6) joined them on signing day, and running back Khalan Laborn is their other five-star signee. Only three of their 23 signees aren't ranked in the top 1000.
