Mets’ bats lifeless in shutout loss to Phillies

This might sound familiar: The Mets were held without a baserunner for a few innings, barely mustered up any hits, never really threatened to score, and wound up losing. This time, they did so by a 4-0 score to the Phillies. Two games into a split-city four-game series with Philadelphia, the Mets have lost both games, each in a uniquely deflating fashion.

Not that it really mattered how the Phillies scored their runs, but José Buttó managed a callback to the team’s gut punch of a loss in the series opener by forcing in the Phillies’ first run with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch.
